Sports Desk – Nishad Kumar, an Indian athlete, won a silver medal in high jump at the Paris Paralympics. This is India’s seventh medal at these games.
Nishad jumped 2.04 meters. The gold was won by Roderick Townsend from the USA with a jump of 2.12 meters, and the bronze went to Georgii Margiev, who jumped 2.00 meters.
Nishad had also won a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago. The T47 category he competes in is for athletes who have an arm amputation or similar physical impairments.
On the same day, another Indian, Preethi Pal, made history by becoming the first Indian woman in track and field to win two medals at the Paralympics. She won a bronze medal in the 200 meters T35 race, setting her fastest time ever at 30.01 seconds.
Preethi is now the second Indian woman to win two medals at a single Paralympics, joining shooter Avani Lekhara from the Tokyo games.
