Lucknow: It is Gandhigiri that ultimately pays off. The Lucknow cops have realised it, though a little late to let Friday prayers pass off peacefully. A team led by additional deputy commissioner of police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha offered a rose to each Namazi at Tile Wali Mosque in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, sources said. Sinha said that the police did so to dispel the negativity that has been prevailing because of a few incidents in the past. Besides telling the community that the police were always there to help them, the police wanted to send the message of love and communal harmony, Sinha said.

The also offered rose to other Namazis at different mosques in the city. A Namazi Rahmani said that no sooner had the police offered them roses than they were filled with joy, because the presence of a huge police contingent outside the mosque triggered fear among them. Another Namazi Khurshed said that such gesture would go a long and build trust between the police and the Muslims. The Friday prayers passed off peacefully.
