Today we will talk about one such historic place that is North India’s first mosque that is going strong even after 1000 years. The place is Shahi Jama Masjid located in the Kotwali locality of Meerut. This auspicious place in Uttar Pradesh has people visiting from all over the world to offer their prayers.

The old city area in Meerut has the Shahi Jama Masjid since 1019 AD. The building’s area is spread more than many hundred square meters. Mahmud Ghaznavi had built this mosque and he was the first one to offer Namaz in this mosque. Since 570 Hijri AD, the azaan sound can be heard every five times and people come to read namaz. The amazing thing about this mosque is that it is in good condition even now.

The government of India had encouraged the mosque management to protect this mosque as a historical heritage but the management didn’t accept the proposal. People provide their donations and offerings for the maintenance and expenses of the mosque. The mosque is created out of red stones and it appears that the artisans have done thread embroidery. The mosque’s door also has the verses of the Quran carved on the stones. It is surprising to note that the verses have been written on the leaves by an artisan who is non-Muslim from Rajasthan.

The walls of the Jama Masjid have been created out of lime and clay and they are almost ten feet wide. There have been several changes undergone since then inside and outside the mosque. The intricate carvings of the mosque are just impossible to be decoded easily. People visiting the mosque in May and June may find the same weather inside the Jama Masjid during November and December. 

As per Vastu Shastra, it is reported that the mosque has all the right things in the right place. Even heavy rains cannot disrupt the functioning inside the mosque, such is its strong architecture. One can find immense peace at all times during his visit to this historical mosque. It is also believed that the Mughal Emperor Humayun had partially restored the mosque over a period of time.

Eid-ul-Fitr which is also regarded as the festival of breaking the fast is a renowned Islamic festival.

More than 1.8 billion Muslims all over the world observe the festival Eid which falls on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal. Eid-ul-Fitr also marks the end of the festival of the holy month of festival i.e. Ramadan. It is one of the sacred festivals where people visit the mosques to thank Allah for all that they have got in life and also seek blessings for immense happiness in life.
