Mukesh Verma, another BJP MLA from Shikohabad (Firozabad), resigned from the main membership of the party on Thursday, two days after OBC leader Swami Prasad Maurya resigned as minister from Yogi Adityanath’s government and met SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. “Our leader is Swami Prasad Maurya. Whatever decision he makes, we will back him up. In the next few days, many more leaders will join us,” Verma stated while resigning.

On Wednesday, another UP cabinet minister, Dara Singh Chauhan, quit and met with Akhilesh Yadav, hinting that he, too, was going there. Chauhan previously led the BJP’s OBC Morcha as he also belongs from BSP background.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is fielding BJP in UP elections and indicates that he will run the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from Ayodhya. This happens as the result of continuous resignations of the MLAs from the party. However, this action is a way to galvanise the cadre within the party and reinforce Hindutva message among people.

Meanwhile, the BJP’s Central Election Committee is featuring a meeting in which they finalise candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in UP. Amit Shah, Anurag Thakur, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are among the list who attend the meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh would all be present virtually at the meeting.
