New Delhi: People have generously donated to the PM Cares Fund. While the companies may not have paid their employees, they did not decline to donate to the PM Cares Fund. Critics say that the PM CARES Fund is opaque. Critics allege that its main purpose is only to glorify the Prime Minister.
The fund has been set up with the objective of dealing with any emergency or crisis situation arising during any kind of epidemic like Covid-19 and providing relief to the affected. In such a situation, this fund should be used to help the millions of migrants living without livelihood for a month in lockdown.
However, so far no one has given information about how much money has been spent on the migrants from the PM Cares Fund or why their rent is not being taken from this fund. According to ‘The Telegraph’ report, the PMO also does not know how much money has been collected so far in the PM Cares Fund. Or whether any fund has been allocated to anyone from this fund. According to ‘The Telegraph’, when asked in this regard, an official associated with the PMO responded by phone, “No information.”
Not only this, there is also information on the website of PM Cares Fund about how much money has been collected or where the money has been used. The Prime Minister is the ex-officio Chairman of this PM Cares Fund. At the same time, the Defense Minister and the Home Minister are its ex-officio Trustees. Let us tell you that several corporate groups have publicly announced that they are donating crores of rupees to the PM Cares Fund.
According to an estimate, within a week of the announcement, people had donated more than Rs 6,000 crore. This is more than three times the total donations of Rs 2,119 crore received in the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) between 2014-15 to 2018-19. 1,594.87 crore was spent from PMNRF during that period.
