Surat: Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) candidate from the Surat east assembly constituency Kanchanbhai Jariwala who was reportedly kidnapped resurfaced before the returning officer and withdrew his nomination papers, official sources said on Wednesday. The AAP leaders created a big noise over the incident and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of kidnapping him. They said that the BJP had kidnapped their candidate fearing defeat in the ensuing assembly polls. Returning officer RB Bhogayata confirmed that Jariwala had withdrawn his candidature from Surat east constituency.

According to deputy commissioner of police Sagar Bagmar, there was no complaint of kidnapping. He confirmed that the candidate had voluntary withdrawn his nomination.

In the morning, Deputy Chief Minister Delhi Manish Sisodia told media persons that the BJP would badly lose the assembly election in Gujarat, so it is fuming and fretting and kidnapped Jariwala. Sisodia said that Jariwala had been last seen at the office of the returning officer on Tuesday. The BJP tried to get his nomination rejected, he said, adding that democracy has been hijacked.
