Holi is a prominent festival in Hindu culture that’s a symbol of good triumph over evil. The colourful festival starts with an event called Holika Dahan. It comes on the Purnima tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Phalgun. After the celebration of Holika Dahan 2022, Holi is celebrated on Pratipada tithi of Chaitra month.

Auspicious Time and Puja Vidhi of Holika Dahan
This year Holika Dahan is on 17th March and the festival of colours will be celebrated on 18 March. Holika Dahan is an auspicious day that starts between 9:20 p.m and 10:31 p.m. The Holika Dahan puja is performed in the auspicious time to bestow luck and good blessing.
It has been believed that by worshipping the Holika, a person is able to get rid from all the sins and achieve prosperity and success in their lives. To perform the Holika Dahan puja, wash your whole body or take a bath. Then sprinkle some water, Roli, Akshat, flowers, turmeric, moong, batase, gulal, seven different types of grains, wheat, sugarcane, gramme, and so on to Holika. Worship Lord Narasimha to gain his blessings while performing all the rituals of the ceremony. At the end, wrap a red thread around the Holika around 5-7 times and enjoy the event.
Significance of Holika Dahan
In Hindu mythology, there is a story about Holika and Prahlad. Prahlad was the son of King Hiranyakashyap. Hiranyakashyap was a firm believer in not worshipping any god. Prahlad, his son, was an ardent disciple of Lord Vishnu. Because of his trust in Lord Vishnu, Hiranyakashyap attempted to kill his son several times, but each time he failed as the god protects him.

Then he called his sister Holika, who has the ability to never be consumed by fire. The King instructed her sister Holika to sit in the fire with Prahlad on his lap. On her brother’s orders, Holika sat in the fire with Prahlad, but Prahlad continued to sing the name of Lord Vishnu, and Prahlad was spared by Lord Vishnu’s favour, while Holika died in the fire. Every year on the day of Phalgun Purnima since then, the Holika Dahan celebration has been celebrated as a symbol of good triumphing over evil.
