The Supreme Court has made an important decision about the NEET MDS 2024 exam for dental students. Despite some students asking for the exam date to be moved, the court has said the exam will happen as planned on March 18, 2024.
The Exam Date Stays, But More Time for Internships
The court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, decided not to change the exam date. They believe the National Dental Commission (NDC) has good reasons for keeping the schedule as it is, to get things back to normal after COVID-19 disruptions.
However, there’s some good news for students worried about completing their internships in time. The deadline for finishing internships has been extended to June 30, 2024. This gives students more time to qualify for the exam.
Who Will Be Affected?
Around 28,000 students are set to take the NEET MDS 2024 exam. The court thought that changing the date might not be fair to these students who are ready to go. On the other hand, some argued that about 8,000 students could miss out because of the current schedule. They wanted the exam moved so everyone has the same chance.
The argument for keeping the exam date includes making sure students who have been preparing don’t face any delays. Some students and groups felt moving the exam to July would solve issues with eligibility and timing, making things fairer for everyone.
The Bottom Line
The Supreme Court’s decision means the NEET MDS 2024 exam will take place on March 18, as originally planned. But, with the internship deadline pushed to June 30, students have more time to meet the requirements. This decision aims to balance keeping the academic schedule on track while also considering the needs of students.
