EducationRecord-Breaking Application Numbers for NEET UG 2024

Date:

In an unprecedented surge, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024 has witnessed over 25 lakh aspirants registering for the exam so far, marking it as the highest ever in its history. This massive jump in applications highlights the growing interest and competitiveness within India’s medical education sector.

Extended Registration Window and Increasing Applicants

Initially slated to close on March 9, 2024, the registration window for NEET UG 2024 was extended to March 16, 2024, due to the overwhelming response and technical difficulties faced by applicants in linking their Aadhaar with their mobile numbers for OTP verification. This extension comes as a relief to many aspiring medical students, allowing them additional time to complete their applications.

A notable trend in this year’s application data is the dominance of female candidates, who constitute more than 55% of the total applicants. This reflects a positive shift towards gender diversity in the medical profession, empowering more women to pursue careers in healthcare.

The state of Uttar Pradesh leads the chart with the highest number of applicants, followed by Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, showcasing the widespread appeal of medical education across the country. The distribution of applicants not only underscores the national reach of NEET UG but also hints at the regions with heightened competition.

The NEET UG 2024 Exam and Admission Prospects

Scheduled for May 5, 2024, NEET UG 2024 paves the way for admission into various undergraduate medical courses such as MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, and more across India’s numerous government and private medical colleges. With a record number of applicants, the competition is expected to be stiffer than ever, affecting the cut-off marks required for admissions into these prestigious programs.

India boasts a wide array of medical colleges with a total of 108,940 seats available for aspiring students. Tamil Nadu tops the list with the highest number of MBBS seats, followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka, indicating the states with potentially higher opportunities for medical aspirants.
