India and Bangladesh crossed swords on the first day of the second of the two-match Test series. The match is being hosted by the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. The host’s skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and asked his batters to don the pads first. Batting first, the Bangla batting lineup fell prey to the senior bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin and Jaydev Unadkat.

Notably, the first wicket of Bangladesh was also the maiden Test wicket for Jaydev Unadkat who has made his Test comeback after a long gap of more than a decade. Unadkat made his first and only appearance in Test cricket in the centurion Test against South Africa in the year 2010.

Coming back to the first day of the ongoing second Test between Bangladesh and India, Wednesday morning in Mirpur marked the Indian dominance over the hosts.

Unadkat and Ashwin scalped one wicket each in the first session and subsequently, Bangla skipper Shakib Al Hasan avoided another fall of wicket alongside number three batter, Mominul Haque, till lunchtime.

But then came the sheer attack of Umesh Yadav who gets better off Shakib Al Hasan on the very first ball of the second session. Then onwards, the experienced spin-pace duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav completely outmuscled the batting lineup of the hosts and bundled them only the score of 227 runs in the first innings.

Ravichandran Ashwin scalped four wickets by conceding 71 runs in 21.5 overs. Whereas, the senior lad Umesh Yadav claimed as many wickets as Ashwin did but he conceded mere 25 runs in his 15 overs. Number three batter Mominul Haque was the only batter for Bangladesh who kept struggling against the bowling lineup of the visitors.

At the end of the first day’s play, India posted 19 runs for no loss having openers KL Rahul and Shubman Gill unbeaten on the individual scores of 3 and 14 runs respectively.
