Uttar PradeshUP crime: Girl abducted from her house in Agra, criminals still at...

Agra (UP): Crime against women continues unabated in Uttar Pradesh, despite the state government’s claim that it handles criminals with an iron hand and demolishes their houses. Several minor girls have been raped and murdered in the state in the past one month.

In another incident of crime against women, a group of men abducted a 17-year-old girl from her house in Tajganj area of Agra city on Tuesday, official sources said. A video clip of the incident which went viral on social media showed a group of criminals entered the house of the girl by scaling the walls and abducted her in the presence of her family members, onlookers and neighbours. The goons were carrying sticks and knives to scare the residents of the area.

The incident took place on October 26, the police said, adding that an FIR was registered against ten persons the next day of the incident when she was rescued from the clutches of the abductors.

In the complaint lodged by her father, a local thug Arun Lala was stalking his daughter. A large number of people were present when the girl had been abducted. The complainant, a daily-wage earner, said that the goon and his chums had entered his house by scaling the walls, battered him and his family members and abducted his daughter. There was nobody to help them, the complainant said, adding that he and his family members live in fear. Nevertheless, when he went to the police station to lodge a complaint, the policemen there refused to do that. The FIR was registered after he had met senior superintendent of police Prabhakar Chaudhary. A case has been registered against six persons under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

According to deputy superintendent of police Archana Singh, the girl has been kept at Asha Jyoti Kendra, a home for women who have been victims of crime, which is part of rules.

The girl’s statement has to be recorded under CrPC and put up before the court, and the criminals who are absconding will soon be brought to book, said station house officer of Taj Ganj Bhupendra Baliyan.
