A video clip of the incident went viral on social media. Immediately after that, the district magistrate took the services of six health workers and sought an explanation from the chief medical officer and two medical officers.
Kushinagar (UP): A stray dog licked the wound of a patient at the emergency ward of Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh. The incident shocked people across the country after a video clip of it went viral on social media. Nevertheless, to cover up the horrible occurrence the hospital management has terminated the services of six health workers, official sources said.
According to sources in the health department, a 25-year-old man Bittu sustained injuries in a road accident near a village in the district on the night of November 1. He was admitted to the emergency ward of the hospital.
The video clip shows a dog lapping blood from his wounds.
According to chief medical officer Dr SK Rai, when the health workers were talking to other patients in the ward, the patient fell to the floor. In the meantime, a canine entered the room and someone standing there made the video clip and uploaded it on social media.
Immediately after the video clip went viral on social media, district magistrate S Raj Lingam asked an additional district magistrate (ADM)-rank officer to verify the incident which he said tarnished the image of the district, so the services of six health workers were sacked.
As soon as the district magistrate received reports from the ADM-level officer, he terminated the services of six health workers and sought an explanation from the chief medical superintendent of the hospital and two medical officers.
According to reports, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, also the state’s health minister, has ordered an inquiry into the case.
