BusinessBYJU's messes up further by appointing Messi as brand ambassador amid layoffs

Date:

Ahead of firing thousands of employees in the name of strategy change and cost cutting, BYJU’s announced a partnership with Lionel Messi as a brand ambassador for its social impact arm, Education for All.

Speaking on the new development, the co-founder of BYJU’s shared that the brand is very excited to collaborate with Lionel Messi as the global ambassador. Messi is very talented and his qualities highly resonate with BYJU’S brand values.

Asking about the spent on this partnership, the company did not disclose how much they had to pay to bring Messi on board, In 2017, they had roped in Shah Rukh Khan as their brand ambassador who was also seen in a lot of tv commercials promoting Byju’s online classes.

The brand has always seen spending so much money on sponsorships like 201 lead sponsors of the Indian cricket team, they also recently renewed their contract with BCCI for a Rs 454 crores deal.

Interestingly and sadly, this development has taken place right after they laid off at least 2,500 employees to move towards profitability.

As per our sources, several employees and ex-employees of the company have complained and shared they were put on extreme pressures by setting up unrealistic targets leading them to quit the company. BYJU’s has denied all the allegations and said they had realistic expectations from employees and also gave them enough time to perform.
