Lucknow: A group of students of a private college entered the Lucknow University campus and beat up a student there, the police said thursday. The incident occurred when the student objected to outsiders on the university premises.

The toughs attacked Shubham Soni, a B Sc final year student of the university, at the canteen on Wednesday evening. Wednesday’s incident was a sequel to the objection Shubham Soni made to the presence of an outsider in the Habihullah hostel a few days ago.

The student concerned called his friends to the LU campus and threw cold drink bottles at Soni who sustained severe injuries and was admitted to Vivekanand Hospital from where he was referred to King George’s Medical University, official sources said.

He sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Vivekananda hospital from where he was referred to King George’s Medical University. According to some LU students, the incident occurred when they were standing in Kishore canteen next to the commerce faculty. A group of students from a private university entered the LU campus and began to abuse Shubham and beat him up, they said.

The attackers ran away after the students raised an alarm. According to chief proctor of Lucknow University Rakesh Dwivedi, the university has filed a complaint at the Hasanganj police station and an inquiry into the case has been ordered, Dwivedi said.
