New Delhi: The Supreme Court has voiced concern after hearing the Central Government’s response about how the students who have returned from Ukraine because of its war with Russia cannot complete their medical studies in India. On September 23, the apex court may hear a petition filed by the MBBS students who have returned from Ukraine.

“The students cannot be left in a lurch,” the Supreme Court said, adding that the Centre should work to find a solution that would help those students to complete their medical education in India. The Supreme Court also advised the Solicitor General, who appeared for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, to set up a committee to look into the matter and provide the students with a solution.

The apex court further said that it understands the issues behind accommodating 20,000 to 30,000 students from Ukraine into Indian medical institutions, but the government should also actively work for providing these students with viable solutions.
