A 32-year-old dengue patient, who was transfused with sweet lime juice instead of plasma at a private hospital in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, died on Thursday. The district administration, after a preliminary inquiry, sealed the hospital, and sent the sample of the sweet lime juice for testing.

Prayagraj (UP): The district administration sealed a private hospital in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, where a 32-year-old dengue patient was transfused with sweet lime instead of plasma on Thursday. The transfusion of sweet lime juice led to the death of the patient. The administration found the hospital management guilty after a preliminary inquiry into the case.

The Global Hospital and Trauma Centre in Prayagraj supplied the kin of the patient, who was admitted to the trauma centre of the health facility, sweet lime juice in a bag that was carrying the tag of “plasma.” Nevertheless, when his conditions deteriorated, the patient was shifted to another private hospital, where he died, his family members said.

According to the relatives of the patient, the doctors of another hospital said to them that the bag contained sweet lime juice and chemicals. A relative of the patient said that his sister had become a widow at the age of 26 and the government should take strict action against the hospital management.

Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak said that taking exception to the video clip which showed that the patient was transfused sweet like juice instead of plasma, he ordered the Prayagraj district administration to seal the hospital.

The sweet lime juice has been sent to a laboratory for testing and the hospital will remain closed till the reports are received, said additional chief medical officer of Prayagraj. The hospital management, however, refuted the allegations. They said that the relatives of the patient had bought the platelets.
