Mau (UP): Law-maker of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) and son of gangster Mukhtar Ansari, Abbas Ansari, surrendered in a local court on Friday in connection with a hate speech case, official sources said. Ansari arrived at the court with his lawyer, dodging a police team which was trying to arrest him.

Abbas Ansari, surrendered in the court of MP/MLA, got interim relief from the Supreme Court in connection with the Arms Act case on Wednesday. The court also asked the Uttar Pradesh government not to take any preventive action against the legislator till further orders. Hearing the petition of Abbas Ansari, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the UP government seeking its response.

The ACJM MP-MLA court had issued a non-bailable warrant against MLA Ansari and his brother Umar Ansari. Abbas Ansari had gone to Saifai to meet Akhilesh Yadav to pay tributes to Mulayam Singh Yadav. As far as his hate speech goes, the legislator had reportedly threatened the state government officials at a public in Pahadpur the area of Mau on March 3 this year. A video of the speech went viral on social media. Several cases have been registered against Abbas Ansari at different police stations in Mau. During election campaigning for the assembly elections Abbas said, “After the formation of Samajwadi Party (SP)-led government, the officials would have to give account of their work in the past regime before getting transferred.”

Just as the video went viral on social media, the Mau police booked him on March 4 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
