Prayagraj (UP): A dengue patient, allegedly given sweet lime juice, instead of plasma, reportedly died in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, official sources said on Thursday. The incident came to light after a video clip, exposing a fake blood bank unit in Uttar Pradesh went viral on the social media. The incident spawned resentment among the family members and friends of the patient concerned, after a scribe shared the video clip.

According to medical experts, a layman can barely make any difference between sweet lime juice and plasma. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that an investigation into the incident began, the government would take action only after receiving a report that will soon arrive. He said that those found guilty would face the music.

As dengue cases are rising in UP, the government has asked the doctors and paramedical staff not to take leave. According to reports, a large number of people down with dengue have been admitted to various hospitals across the state. Recent floods caused by heavy rains led to rise in number of dengue cases, official sources said.

Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court directed the local Municipal Corporation to inform the court about the measures it has taken to stop spread of the disease. Similarly, the Lucknow bench of the court asked the state government to keep the court abreast with the measures they have taken to deal with the rising dengue cases and about the bettered health facilities.
