Budaun (UP): Attacks on women continue unabated in Uttar Pradesh. An eight-month pregnant woman and her minor sister were hacked to death in Sheikhupur village of Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district on Tuesday night, the police said on Wednesday.
According to reports from Budaun, the 22-year-old pregnant woman Lajjawati, whose husband Kamal Singh works in Haryana, called her seven-year-old sister Manju to stay with her. Both of them were murdered when they were sleeping in the courtyard of their house. The police said that two brothers of Kamal Singh may have committed the crime and they were at large. The brothers of Singh, used to beat their wives, were detained by the police and released with a warning on the charge of domestic violence. After being released when both of them returned home, they did not find their wives there.
They got angry thinking that Lajjawati was asking their wives to lodge a complaint against them, so they decided to teach a lesson to her and her sister. After polishing off Lajjawati and her sister with an axe, the duo ran away. Kamal Singh, who has been informed about the incident, was on his way home from Haryana. A complaint in connection with the incident has yet to be filed, the police said, adding that they began to investigate the case.
This was the second incident of attack on women in Uttar Pradesh within four days. On Saturday, the bodies of three women – two sisters and their friend – were found floating in Saprar dam in Jhansi district of the state. The post mortem report of the bodies of those women confirmed that they had been murdered.
