Lucknow: Personal secretary of Samajwadi Party’s (SP) Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Swami Prasad Maurya’s personal secretary and 12 others have been booked for allegedly molesting a Dalit woman and for trying to bump off her brother. The incident took place in Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The personal secretary of Maurya has been identified as Sajjad, the police said on Wednesday, adding that the accused were booked under the SC/ST Act.

Maurya, who was a former minister in the Yogi Adityanath-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, resigned from the government and joined the SP. According to the complainant, the incident took place at Maurya’s residence at Vipul Khand in Gomti Nagar in the night of October 9. She said that when she had reached the house of the SP MLC, she found Sajjad taking to Maurya.

According to the complainant, no sooner Sajjad had seen her than he began to shout at her, saying she had been chasing him for two days, besides Sajjad and his associates opened fire at her and her brother, but the bullet flew past him. She also alleged that Sajjad had torn her sister’s cloth, but a government gunner saved her. According to the complainant, Sajjad tried to violate her and her sister. Maurya, however, said that Sajjad was not his staffer but an unemployed youth moving with him.
