Uttar PradeshCourt issues NBW against Chinmayanand

Date:

Shahajahanpur (UP): A special MP/MLA court in the district has issued a non-bailable warrant against former Union minister of state Swami Chinmayanand. The warrant was issued in the wake of his failure to surrender before the trial court. He was required to surrender after the stay that Supreme Court had granted him in connection with 2011 rape case lapsed, official sources said on Friday.

Judge of the special MP/MLA court Asma Sultana has also written to senior superintendent of police to arrest Chinmayanand and produce before the court, sources further said. The next date for hearing of the case is December 9.

Chinmayanand approached the Supreme Court to get relief after the Allahabad High Court had turned down his plea to quash case.

He, then, moved the Supreme Court which said it did not want to interfere with the order passed by the high court. The apex court gave him time to surrender till November 30.

As his stay was over, the court issued a non-bailable warrant against him and directed the SSP to arrest him.
