Bareilly: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan got regular bail from a special MP/MLA court on Tuesday in connection with hate speech in 2019. He challenged his conviction in a sessions court, official sources said.
According to Khan’s lawyer Zubair Ahmed, special court judge Alok Dubey awarded a three-year jail term to the SP leader on October 27 in connection with the hate speech during the Lok Sabha election campaign in 2019. At that time, he was granted bail and an application was put up before the court for a regular bail, the lawyer said. Khan, who represented Rampur Sadar assembly constituency, will be out on bail till the disposal of his plea in the sessions court. The Rampur Sadar assembly seat has fallen vacant after the disqualification of Khan. By-election to the seat will be held on December 5.
