Pollution in India has always been a matter of concern. Thus the Government in UP has decided to shut down eighteen factories in Kanpur and several other tanneries during the Six “Shahi Snans” in the upcoming Magh Mela that will begin next month in Prayagraj.
Orders have been issued to restrict the chemicals and other substances from factories to get into the river to keep river Ganga clean for the upcoming Magh Mela in Prayagraj.
After the production, the vestige generated during the production of leather products is directly transferred to the drains. According to the information received the area suffers a lot of drain coagulation. The drains are connected to the Noon river. All this waste generated gets transferred to Yamuna and later meets the convergence of Sangam in Prayagraj. Keeping these things in mind the government ordered the shutdown of the factories.
An order was issued to the factory owners and operators by the regional officer pollution control board. A roaster application for closing down of factories has also been issued. The incident has happened earlier too during Magh Mela last year in 2021 and the 2019 Kumbh Mela.
