On Monday, Gukesh set a new record by becoming the youngest player to win the Candidates tournament. For the past 40 years, this record held by Garry Kasparov. This win give him the opportunity to challenge, Ding Liren of China, the current world champion, later this year.

The tournament occurred in Toronto, Canada, during the 14th and final round, where D Gukesh played to a draw against American Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura.

The achievement has sparked a wave of congratulations. Viswanathan Anand, a chess icon himself, expressed his joy.

Similarly, business magnate Anand Mahindra praise Gukesh, nicknaming him the ‘Iceman’ .

Gukesh shared that his confidence soared against another top contender, Fabiano Caruana from the US. Despite losing that match in the seventh round, it was a turning point. Congratulations, Gukesh!
