Lucknow: The rising number of incidents of communal violence and various types of crimes in Uttar Pradesh have forced the state government to equip the police with five more bomb detection and disposal squads (BBDS), sources said on Friday. The new BBDs will be deployed at vital points like metro train services, Ram Janmabhoomi temple and new international airports. At present, a few squads are kept in Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Mathura, Agra, Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Varanasi.

According to an official, the state has 26 such squads deployed at various district police units and other wings. The last time that the state police’s BDDS saw an expansion was in 2010. The new squads will be trained by National Security Guards (NSG). Besides the five units will be equipped with modern gadgets.
