Live for the day, why bother much?

Reading the news that many EdTech platforms are going to start tuition centres, I shared with my mother how these online apps that were making profits during the pandemic times, are making losses in recent times. People were quite confident then that it is all online that will rule the world – online education, online working, online shopping, online travel, etc. because people were shut in their homes and had restrictions to move here and there in 2020 and 2021. However, as the world got again a ray of hope in 2022 by opening up everything from shops to schools to offices, the “online thing” came to a halt.

Obviously, the things that seemed quite promising when the world was crying, have reversed. We are back to normal like the pre-pandemic times and that includes hybrid learning where there is a mix of online and offline classes. So, when I kept sharing how the top companies are going through losses, my mother told me, “why to bother much? we should learn to live for the day”. In a matter of seconds, my thought process changed and I realized that she is completely right.

Like, those companies that were ruling before the pandemic times, were complaining of losses during the coronavirus pandemic. Whereas, those companies that were stunned by their market potential, were celebrating during the pandemic times. But their lives changed when the losses came around once things started getting back to normal. So, who wins or loses really doesn’t matter to anyone. All it matters is what one does when they are winning or when they are losing.

Profits and losses of a company are just like successes and failures in a person’s life. As far as I understood, we plan too much for the future but forget that we have the present moment. And at times, we plan too much for the present that we forget that we have a future too. There is something called “extreme thinking” that affects one and all. So, if you live just for the day, it means you will save and spend only for the day alone. But if you save for the future while you are satisfied spending money for the day, you are living the life of a king.

Living in the present moment needs to be done in a balanced manner and that can come with practice alone. Just like, living for the future comes with practice as well. So, how about learning to manage both the present and future in such a manner that you don’t get bothered much or develop any sort of anxiety in your life. For example, if you earn Rs. 10 per day, how about spending Rs. 8 for your needs and wants or desires, and saving the remaining Rs. 2 for your future? This will give you the satisfaction that you are managing your life in a balanced manner.

Last but not the least, whenever you are taken back to the past, you can think about the present moment and eventually distract by future ambitions and desires, this way you will manage your past, present, and future in the most beautiful way possible.
