Pinky Chaudhary, the chief of the Hindu Raksha Dal, was denied temporary protection from arrest by the Delhi High Court on Friday. Chaudhary is being investigated for his suspected participation in the Jantar Mantar provocative sloganeering case. On Chaudhary’s anticipatory bail application, the court issued a notice to the Delhi Police, asking them to provide a status report. The bail application will be heard on September 13, according to the court.
“At first glance, there are a variety of slogans and speeches being delivered. While rejecting the petition for temporary protection, Justice Mukta Gupta stated, “Let them write a status report.” Last Monday, a lower court dismissed Chaudhary’s anticipatory bail plea, stating that “we are not in a Taliban state.”

“We are not in a Taliban state,” said Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Anil Antil while issuing the ruling on August 21. In our numerous and multicultural society, the rule of law is the supreme governing principle. While the whole country is commemorating Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, certain brains remain enslaved by bigoted and self-centered beliefs.”
According to the ASJ, Chaudhary’s interview is “impregnated with high octane communal barbs, insulting and threatening gestures, which ex facie is suggestive of the applicant’s calculated purpose to foment enmity and ill will amongst various sectors of society.”

On August 13, a lower court refused to grant bail to three men detained earlier this month for shouting provocative and anti-Muslim chants at Jantar Mantar during an event, saying their “scathing statements” were “undemocratic and uncalled for from a citizen of this nation.” The demonstration organizer against “colonial-era rules,” Supreme Court lawyer and former BJP spokeswoman Ashwini Upadhayay, was granted bail on August 11 by a lower court.
