Disha Ravi did not get bail, Delhi court reserves order

New Delhi: Disha Ravi’s bail plea was heard in the Toolkit Case in Delhi’s Patiala House Court. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court did not presently grant bail to Disha Ravi and has posted the verdict on 23 February to pronounce the verdict. Both sides presented their arguments in the court and the court also asked sharp questions to the Delhi Police.

Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana posted the matter for February 23.

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S V Raju, appearing on behalf of the Delhi Police, said that Ravi was preparing the toolkit with those advocating for a Khalistan state and was part of a ‘global conspiracy’ to defame India and create unrest in the country ‘in the garb of farmers’ protest’.

The police alleged that Ravi deleted WhatsApp chats, emails and other evidence and was aware of legal actions she could face.

The judge asked ASG if the police have evidence to directly link Ravi with the January 26 violence in Delhi.

Judge Rana also asked if an ‘imputation can be made against a person merely on the basis of her association with another person or organisation.’

The ASG responded, ‘The conspiracy is not that I knew a particular person and told them to commit violence, but that I created a document which I knew and intended to incite violence. The conspiracy is in the meeting of the minds.’

Siddharth Agarwal, appearing for Ravi submitted that police have not even stated that Sikhs For Justice is connected to Poetic Justice Foundation and she was merely organising a peaceful protest.

Earlier, On February 14, a local court sent Ravi to five-day police custody after the agency said her custodial interrogation was required to probe an alleged larger conspiracy against the Union Government and to ascertain her alleged role relating to the Khalistan movement.
