The death toll from Friday night’s terrible 6.4 magnitude earthquake in Nepal, as confirmed by the police on Saturday, has grown to 137. More than 140 people were hurt in the western districts of Jajarkot and Rukum, Nepal Television reports.

According to ANI, Deputy Mayor of Nalgad Municipality Sarita Singh was among the 92 people killed in Jajarkot, one of the worst-affected areas. In the Ramidanda neighborhood of the Barekot Rural Municipality, 44 people were killed, and 70 were injured.
West Rukum had 36 deaths in Aathbiskot Municipality and 8 in Sanibheri Rural Municipality. As a result of the violence, many people in these areas need medical attention.
Ambulances were stationed near the helipad at Nepalgunj Airport and the military barracks in an attempt to transport those with life-threatening injuries.
The injured will be given priority at designated medical centers in the affected regions. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” of Nepal expressed his sorrow for the earthquake victims and ordered three security agencies to begin relief and rescue efforts immediately.
The earthquake was centered in Nepal, although it was felt all over northern India, especially in the National Capital Region (NCR), Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
The interior ministry said that more districts, including Dailekh, Salyan, and Rolpa, had also suffered fatalities and property damage.
Jajarkot, which is around 500 kilometers west of Kathmandu, is where the victims were sent for medical treatment.

A year ago, in November 2022, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Doti region, killing six people. This was the latest in a string of earthquakes that rocked the country. In 2015, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake devastated the mountainous area, killing more than 12,000 people and destroying 1 million houses.
