Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has said he is ready to end his hunger strike if one of three conditions is fulfilled. He shared the message from his hospital bed on Monday, the day the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) planned its “Chalo Sansad” march.
Wangchuk has been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET examination irregularities.
Three Conditions to End the Fast
In a message shared on his X account, Wangchuk said he would end his indefinite hunger strike if the central government accepts responsibility for the recent failures in the education system, especially the alleged examination paper leaks.
If that does not happen, he said he and the CJP leadership should be allowed to go to Parliament and present their demands directly to Members of Parliament and political leaders.
As a third option, Wangchuk said that if his health does not allow him to travel, MPs and leaders from different parties should visit him in the hospital and assure him that they will raise the issue in Parliament.
He said he would end his fast if any one of these three conditions was met.
Calls Hospital Stay an “Illegal Detention”
Wangchuk referred to his stay at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi as an “illegal detention.”
In his message, he claimed that his freedom of movement, speech and communication had been restricted.
Tight Security in Delhi
Delhi Police has increased security across the city ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament and the CJP’s proposed march.
Heavy police deployment has been seen around Jantar Mantar, Parliament and other important locations.
Authorities have also imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the BNSS in the New Delhi district.
Delhi Police said no permission had been requested or granted for the proposed protest march.
Protest Continues
Wangchuk’s protest and the CJP campaign are focused on one main demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET examination irregularities.
Earlier, through a message shared by his wife, Gitanjali Angmo, Wangchuk appealed to supporters to make the planned Parliament march successful.
He was taken to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police on July 18, the 21st day of his hunger strike.
