A man from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh is still in a Pakistan jail after crossing the border without a visa to meet a woman he met on Facebook.
According to his family, Badal Babu worked as a tailor in Delhi before becoming friends with a Pakistani woman named Sana on Facebook. Over time, their friendship turned into a romantic relationship.
Crossed the Border Without a Visa
Badal’s family said he last spoke to them on October 30, 2024. Before leaving, he reportedly left all his documents at home.
His family later learned through social media posts and videos that he had entered Pakistan without a visa and had been arrested.
According to them, Badal first tried to travel to Pakistan in August 2024 but failed. He later crossed the border illegally and reached Pakistan on October 15, 2024.
Marriage Did Not Happen
The family claimed that Sana later refused to marry him. After that, Badal stayed in Pakistan and started working there. He remained in contact with his family through phone calls.
However, his problems began on December 27, 2024, while he was working as a goat herder for his employer.
Arrested After Locals Became Suspicious
Police said local people became suspicious after hearing Badal speak and noticing his Indian accent. They informed the police, who arrested him for entering Pakistan illegally.
He was later produced before a court.
Around the same time, a video of Badal from the court premises went viral on social media. In the video, he asked his family not to worry and said, “I will not return now. Don’t worry. I have converted.”
According to the family, the video call was arranged by his lawyer before he was sent to jail.
Family Seeks Government’s Help
Badal is currently lodged in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore.
His family says he has already completed his sentence but is still in jail because the process to send him back to India has not been completed.
The family has appealed to the Indian government and the Ministry of External Affairs to help bring him home.
They also said that the Aligarh administration has completed the required paperwork several times. Aligarh MP Satish Gautam had also written to the ministry regarding the case.
According to the family, an Indian-origin woman living in London is helping Badal’s lawyers in Pakistan and is assisting with efforts to secure his release.
