Lucknow: For the first time BJP got the majority In The Upper house of Uttar Pradesh. After the result declared on Tuesday for 36 Legislative Council BJP was able to bag 33, Rest of the two seats went in the category of independent and one seat belonged to Akshay Pratap Singh of Jansatta dal, whose president is Raja Bhaiya. But if we talk about the upset for BJP, then it is surely from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi.
There BJP candidate was able to get the third position while Mafia turned politician Brijesh Singh was able to achieve the victory. 100 seated Legislative Council has now 66 members from Bharatiya Janata Party. One seat is vacant due to the death of former leader of opposition Ahmed Hassan, two seat became vacant due to the resignation of chief minister Adityanath and minister Jaiveer Singh from the house.

Both of them were elected for the Legislative Assembly seats from which they contested. Samajwadi Party which was in majority during the last tenure of Adityanath lead BJP government in the state. Now samajwadi Party has just 17 members.
BJP to soon cross the mark of 80 seats
BJP will cross the mark of 80 seats by July of this year. 6 seats will become vacant from the category of nominated members whose tenure is ending up in May, whereas 15 seats will become vacant in July of this year. As BJP has the figure of 255 seats of his own then it is very much decided that it will be able to bag the maximum number of seats.
The nominated members belong to the government so the 6 members in the upper house will be of BJP surely in May. The situation says that BJP would be able to cross the 80 seats mark in July whereas Congress will turn to zero and BSP will remain with only one seat.
