New Delhi: India’s maiden mission brand-new rocket worth Rs 56 crore Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) failed on Sunday. The failure of small rocket powered by solid fuel puts the focus on the safety of India’s human space mission to be carried out by Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mk III (GSLV-Mk III) with the cryogenic engine. The Indian space Research Organisation (ISRO) said that the satellites were unusable, because they went into different orbit from the intended one. The statement came hours after the launch of the vehicle.

According to ISRO, all the stages performed normally. Both the satellites were injected, but the orbit achieved was less than expected, which makes its unstable. Nevertheless, ISRO officials are tight-lipped about the reasons for failure of the satellites. ISRO was keen to celebrate India’s 75th year of Independence in advance. Therefore, it launched its freshly minted rocket, small Satellite Launch Vehicle. A few officials of the space agency said that data was being collected about the status of the mission. The rocket was 34-meter tall and weighed 120 tons.
