Mumbai: Gangrape of a 35-year-old woman in Bhandara area of Maharashtra has sparked a political slugfest between the Eknath Shinde-led government and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi. The woman was raped between July 30 and August 2 near Kanhadmoh village under the Kardha police station, Bhandara district, the police said.

After violating her, the culprits threw her near the highway. She was profusely bleeding from the injuries she had sustained during the rape. The villagers then informed the police. She was rushed to a local hospital, but since her condition deteriorated, she was taken to Nagpur hospital where her condition was stated to be critical. Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Rupali, took serious cognisance of the case. Leaders of many political parties in the state compared the incident with the Nirbhaya case that took place in Delhi a decade ago. Meanwhile, Shinde formed a Special Investigation Team led by a woman officer to probe into the case.
