Headmaster demands money for I-Day function, suspended

Agra: Demand for money from the students to celebrate the 75th year of India’s Independence Day led to the suspension of a headmaster at a government primary school in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, sources said on Sunday. The basic education officer (BEO) or Basic Siksha Adhikari suspended the headmaster after a video clip of the incident went viral on social media on Saturday. Headmaster Brajesh Kumar of a primary school in Budhaich village under Sahpau block of Hathras district was seen demanding money from the students in the video clip. The incident took place on August 2.  Kumar demanded Rs 15 from each student for I-Day celebrations.

According to BEO Sandeep Kumar, the headmaster’s demand for Rs 15 from students for celebrating the 75th year of Independence is illegal, as the government has not issued any such orders. Therefore, he has been suspended, Kumar said.
