Scientists discovered a dinosaur egg fossil in southern China, which revealed a well-preserved dinosaur embryo within. This egg is thought to be between 66 and 72 million years old. ‘Baby Yingliang’ is the name given to this foetus. It was discovered at the Shahe Industrial Park in Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, in rocks of the ‘Hekou Formation.’

The embryo belonged to an oviraptorosaurian species with no teeth and a beak, according to palaeontologists at the University of Birmingham. Oviraptorosaurs were feathered dinosaurs that lived in Asia and North America’s rocks. Their beak and body sizes differed, allowing them to eat a variety of foods.
Baby Yingliang was close to hatching, according to a Daily Mail storey. His head was hidden beneath his body, his back was bent like an egg, and his legs were on each side of his head. This position is found in contemporary birds during ‘tucking.’ Tucking is a vital procedure for a successful hatching that is controlled by the central nervous system.

The fact that Baby Yingliang exhibited such behaviour implies that it is not ‘great’ to birds. It’s possible that it developed among the first non-avian theropod dinosaurs. Fionn Wassam Mai, a palaeontologist from the University of Birmingham, and his colleagues conducted the study. Dinosaur embryos, he claimed, are among the most unusual fossils ever discovered, with the majority of them being boneless. The finding of ‘Baby Yingliang’ has piqued our interest.
