Swami Prasad Maurya sparked a political storm in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday when he filed his papers as a minister in Yogi Adityanath’s BJP cabinet and was welcomed by Akhilesh Yadav to the Samajwadi Party. A handful of lawmakers from the ruling side left the party shortly after.
The developments occurred on the same day that home minister Amit Shah and Adityanath convened a major BJP conference in the national capital to shortlist potential candidates for the state assembly elections’ preliminary stages. The seven-phase high-octane election will start on February 10 and end on March 7.
Roshan Lal Verma, Bhagwati Sagar, and Brajesh Prajapati are among the BJP lawmakers who have reportedly resigned in the wake of Maurya’s resignation.
“I would be there where Swami Prasad is,” Verma, who represents Shahjahanpur’s Tilhar Assembly constituency, stated.

Prajapati represents Banda’s Tindwari assembly seat, whereas Bhagwati Sagar represents Bilhaur in Kanpur Nagar district.
“Ab pata chalega, Swami Prasad Maurya kaun hai,” the former minister stated after resigning. Main jahan rahunga wahan sarkar banegi (now everyone will know who Swami Prasad is. Wherever I am, a government will be created),” he stated.
“I have resigned from the Yogi cabinet in light of the government’s stance against Dalits, backward classes, farmers, youths, and traders,” he remarked previously. I’ll communicate with my supporters before deciding whether or not to join another political party. Hundreds of MLAs are expected to resign in the coming days.”

Several top bjp leaders, including Shah, are reportedly attempting to contact Maurya. However, according to a tweet published by BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, the efforts may not have achieved any beneficial results yet.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party workers gathered outside the Lucknow office to express their displeasure at the announcement.
