Vijay fans out there, here is some amazing news. Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action film Leo features Vijay in the lead role has now crossed the important milestone of Rs 300 crores at the domestic box office, says a report.
Yeah, finally the film on its second Sunday has made a remarkable Rs 16 crore. So, this totals up the film’s domestic box office collections to Rs. 300 crores in its 11 days of run at the theatres all over India in different languages.
For the unversed, Leo was released in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi versions. The film made ₹2 crore more than the collection on its second Saturday, when the film amassed ₹14 crore. Keeping a rising trend on Sunday, it’s managed to cross ₹300 crore in India.
Leo registered an occupancy of 55.07% in Tamil, 38.62% in Telugu, and 15.98% in Hindi. In the Hindi market, it faced stiff competition from Kangana Ranaut’s Tejas, Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail, Nimrat Kaur and Radhika Madan-starrer Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video and Shyam Benegal’s Mujib: The Making of a Nation. But as per reports, from tomorrow, the film Leo will see a decline in its earnings at the box office.
The film Leo saw the reunion of director Lokesh with actor Vijay after the 2021 hit action film Master. Leo is the third installment in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe after Karthi-starrer Kaithi (2019) and Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil-starrer Vikram (2022). Leo also features Trisha Krishnan as the leading lady and marks the Tamil film debut of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt. Actor Arjun Sarja also has an important role to play in the film.
Leo got an amazing response at the box office all over India in all three languages. However, some critics didn’t find the film to be that great. They pointed out the film’s excess of violent scenes along with the lack of real emotions.
Actor Vijay was last seen in Varisu which hit the theatres on 11 January 2023 and created a storm at the box office. Since the movie was a family drama, it really was well-received as a one-time watch movie with family and friends. Varisu revolved around the story of a young man who had to deal with a toxic father while pursuing his dreams of having his own identity through his startup company. However, when his wealthy dad falls sick, he comes back to his house and mends his relations with all his family members. The film’s plot was well-appreciated and saw Vijay romancing Rashmika on-screen for the first time.
In the film Leo, Vijay is featured with Trisha with whom he had worked in the past in several films like Ghilli, Tirupachi, etc. After Leo, Vijay is working on Thalapathy68 that will also have SJ Suryah in an important role. The film’s details along with the title has not been announced yet but the film will most release during Pongal 2024.
Let’s see how many more crores Vijay’s Leo is able to make at the box office in the coming month.
