For the unaware, Oppenheimer is a biographical drama film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. The film was released recently and has already recovered the money from the box office it took in the production phase. The film is based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. Oppenheimer talks about the life of American theoretical physicist and polymath J. Robert Oppenheimer. It focuses mainly on Oppenheimer’s early studies, his direction of the Manhattan Project, and his gradual ousting during the Oppenheimer security hearing as a result of McCarthyism and the second Red Scare, with actions taken by Lewis Strauss, a senior member of the United States Atomic Energy Commission who considered Oppenheimer as a rival.
The film features Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer and Robert Downey Jr. as Strauss. Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh form the remaining supporting cast. Despite the film being released with the fantasy movie Barbie, Oppenheimer’s movie received critical acclaim, with special recognition for its cast, screenplay, and visuals. Another section of critics also noticed how the movie promoted only the contribution of “American scientists and American enterprise”, and didn’t include the important contributions of British science and non-Americans such as Australian physicist Mark Oliphant in kick-starting the quest.
