Kolkata: The first phase of voting for the assembly elections in West Bengal has been completed. In the first phase of voting till 5 pm, Bengal had 79.8 percent polling. In the first phase of the assembly elections in West Bengal, voting for 30 seats under tight security, more than 73 lakh voters will decide the fate of 191 candidates in these seats. Maximum of these seats are in the Naxalite affected Jungle Mahal area.

Officials in West Bengal said that the polling will last till six in the evening and voting is being held under tight security. The Election Commission has deployed around 730 contingents of central forces to protect 10,288 polling stations in 7,061 precincts.

This time there is a close fight between the ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting from Nandigram. The seats where elections are being held include nine seats in Purulia, four in Bankura, four in Jhargram and six in West Medinipur.

TMC has been accused of attacking the car of the brother of BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari. Sommendu was not in the car at that time. The BJP delegation led by Kailash Vijayvargiya met the Election Commission after the attack on Soumendu Adhikari, the brother of BJP leader and Suvendu Adhikari. Vijayvargiya said that this is the first election in six years, in which there was less violence and people voted fearlessly.

Bengal CM and TMC leader Mamta Banerjee accused the Prime Minister of violating the Election Code of Conduct. Mamta said that elections are going on in the state and PM is giving a speech on Bengal in Bangladesh.
