Lucknow: Just after the UP Polls, the new narrative is going all around that, Akhilesh is not paying attention to the Muslim issues. Azam was in jail. Nahid Hasan was sent to jail soon after he filed his nominations. Shazil Islam was booked and even his petrol pump was razed soon after he made the bullet remark for chief minister Adityanath. On all the issues, Akhilesh has kept himself silent and he hasn’t shown any deeper interest in it.
Before the UP Polls, Muslims were united before Akhilesh Yadav. Most of the community votes went with him. Though Akhilesh failed to frame the government. After Adityanath resumed the government police started taking actions over the people who commented against the government or the religion. In political arena people alleged that the actions are targeted though the machinery denied all. One by one muslim leaders of the Samajwadi Party booked and few were sent to jails. Akhilesh in the whole didn’t opposed. Right from there the narrative came to existence that Akhilesh is keeping distances with Muslim leadership of the party.

Akhilesh don’t want to give edge to BJP
It is quite often said that Samajwadi party depends on the MY factor (Muslim and Yadav combination votes). Bhartiya Janta Party propagated this as anti-Hindu narrative and was able to get the votes of most of the backward and Dalit community against Muslims. After losing this election Akhilesh has an eye on 2024. For this he doesn’t want to give BJP edge again to put the same narrative. Akhilesh wants himself to be known as the leader of backward community not as the pro-Muslim leader.
He thinks, it’s the need of hour
Akhilesh’s father Mulayam singh Yadav was known as Mulla Mulayam. He never opposed of it, neither he tried to clean this label. Political pundits are of the view, that time was different. None of the party has tried to put it as anti-Hindu remark. Even BJP not used it before the duo of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. The label of Mulla Mulayam helped him also to get the power. Now the narrative is quite different. Pro-Muslim means anti Hinduism, anti-nationalist, anti-culturalist and so on. All these narratives help to unite all the castes of backward and Dalits in the name of Hinduism. This is the only reason that the champion of Dalit votes, Mayawati is sinking down since 2014.
