Lucknow: More than 98% voters casted their votes in the UP legislative council polls on Saturday. Out of 36 seats of local bodies quota, there were polls in 27 seats. 9 already have been won by BJP without polls as there were no opponent to the BJP candidates.

According to the election commission of India, Rae Bareli, registered the highest voter turnout. There 99.35% voters enjoyed their right. Gorakhpur was the lowest with 96.50 poll percent. After casting his vote, the CM of UP, Adityanath said that after four decades there will be a situation that the ruling party will have huge mandate in the upper house too.

BJP remained in minority during last tenure

During the last tenure of Adityanath’s government, BJP remained in minority, as Samajwadi Party had maximum numbers in the upper house. This time, BJP is set to have the majority in the house. If the things went normal, BJP will acquire three quarter seats of the 100 seated legislative council. The chief minister of UP said, last time the government faced some problem as Samajwadi Party played negative role.

Akhilesh couldn’t cast his vote

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav couldn’t cast his vote as there was no need for the polls. Akhilesh was the voter of the Mathura-Etah-Mainpuri seat. From this seat, the BJP candidate was elected unopposed. Rajya Sabha Member, Ramgopal Yadav and Pragatishil Samajwadi Party (Lohia) chief, Shivpal Yadav cast their vote at Etawah.

95 candidates are testing their fate

On 27 seats, 95 candidates total are testing their fates. The polling was held at 739 centers. 1,20,657 voters were eligible to exercise their franchise in these polls. Currently there are 38 seats vacant in the upper house. At present there are 34 MLCs from BJP, SP has 17 members, BSP has 4 whereas congress, Apna Dal (Sonelal), and Nishad Party have one each. Teachers group has two members while Nirdal samooh has one and one MLC is independent too.
