Retired Indian Air Force Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta, a veteran of the 1999 Kargil War, was allegedly attacked with an iron rod by a parking attendant in Gurugram on Thursday night, leaving him seriously injured.
According to Gupta’s written complaint, the incident took place around 8 pm when he reached Magnum Global Park in his car after dropping his family at a restaurant.
Gupta, who served during Operation Safed Sagar, alleged that parking staff repeatedly directed him between the valet area, basement and multi-level parking before eventually refusing to allow him to park his vehicle.
Parking Dispute Turns Violent
The situation allegedly escalated when Gupta attempted to reverse his car.
According to the complaint, a parking attendant struck the vehicle with an iron rod, allegedly attempting to break the front windshield.
When Gupta stepped out of the car and objected, the attendant allegedly attacked him with the rod.
One blow struck Gupta on the head, while another hit his arm, leaving him bleeding and injured.
He further alleged that security personnel and other parking staff present at the spot did not come forward to assist him.
Veteran Alleges Delay in Police Response
Gupta also claimed that he called the police helpline after the attack, but no assistance arrived for around half an hour.
According to his complaint, a chef eventually intervened and helped him.
Gupta was later taken by ambulance to a private hospital in serious condition.
He underwent complex surgery for a fractured elbow, during which plates were inserted to repair the injury.
Allegations Against Hospital Over MLC
The retired officer has also raised allegations against the hospital where he was treated.
Gupta claimed that the hospital prepared an incorrect medico-legal case (MLC) report that did not mention the bleeding from his head or the seriousness of his elbow injury.
In his written complaint, he sought immediate registration of an FIR against the accused parking attendant under stringent legal provisions, including those related to attempted murder and causing grievous injury.
He also demanded strict action against those responsible.
Police Begin Investigation
Police said an investigation has been initiated after Gupta submitted a written complaint.
The case is now being examined on the basis of his allegations and the circumstances surrounding the attack.
