News Desk – Patna-born Russian legislator Abhay Singh, who represents Russia’s Kursk region, has said India should push for the S-500 air-defence system during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Delhi for the India-Russia annual summit on December 4–5.

Singh said India’s current S-400 missile system is very strong, but the S-500 is “Russia’s latest and most advanced technology”. “If Russia gives S-500 to India, India will be the first country to receive it. Even China doesn’t have it,” Singh told India Today TV.
“It would be a great achievement for India.”

Putin’s Visit After Four Years

Putin is visiting India after four years a period marked by the Ukraine war, India’s discounted oil purchases from Russia, and tensions with the US over these imports. The summit is expected to cover:

Defence cooperation

Next-generation fighter and missile systems

Nuclear energy projects

Trade and agriculture

Technology partnerships

Work permits for Indians in Russia

Singh said the visit has created “excitement in both countries” and will strengthen the “strategic partnership”.

Possible Discussions

According to Singh, India and Russia may talk about:

Collaboration on advanced fighter jets like the Su-57

Access to newer missile defence systems

Agriculture cooperation

Technology exchanges

Legal pathways for more Indian workers to work in Russia

He said Russia is opening up to skilled and semi-skilled Indian workers because the country has a shortage of technicians and trained personnel.

Why Russia Needs Indian Workers

“Russia is the world’s largest country by area, India has the biggest population. Russia needs a bigger workforce, especially skilled workers. Indians should explore opportunities here,” Singh said.

His Political Journey

Singh said he was inspired by Putin but campaigned in Russia using an Indian style meeting people directly, holding public gatherings and connecting with local communities.

This approach, he said, helped him win elections twice “with record margins”.

He also encouraged Indians living in Russia to join social and political work and contribute to local communities.
