Bengaluru: Leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former chief minister Karnataka BS Yediyurappa is in deep trouble. A special court on Wednesday ordered Lokayukta police to file a case and start an inquiry against him, sources said. The special court order came in the wake of a plea by a social activist TJ Abraham.
In the petition he alleged that Yediyurappa awarded a BDA housing project to Ramalingam Construction Company for financial favours. Abraham had sought a probe against the former chief minister, his son and other family members. Nevertheless, the court dismissed the petition because Abraham did not take permission from the Governor for it.
Consequently, he filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court which on September 7 asked the special court for MPs/MLAs to reconsider the corruption cases against Yediyurappa who has been recently nominated to the Parliamentary Board and Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party. A bench of the high court headed by Justice S Sunil Dutt Yadav issued the order in connection filed by a social activist TJ Abraham. He demanded a probe by the special Investigation Team (SIT) against Yediyurappa. The petitioner alleged that Yediyurappa and his family members had received bribes to the tune of hundreds of crores from Ramalingam Construction Company for giving it contracts.
The high court further said that the special court would ponder over registration of an FIR and inquiry into the allegations. A case was filed at the Anti-Corruption Bureau in 2020. Yediyurappa is leading the BJP in the ensuing assembly election.
