Gwalior (MP): A group of students of a government medical college in an inebriated condition allegedly snatched the mobile phone of a police official and also bashed up a driver of a police vehicle. The incident occurred after an altercation between a team of patrolling policemen and those students, sources said. When the patrolling team found them wandering in the wee hours of Wednesday, the policemen stopped them and then an altercation ensued between the police and the students, official sources said.

Four of the students were detained but they were let off because of their medical examination. An FIR was registered against them along with the six others in connection with the incident. According to additional superintendent of Police Mrigakhi Deka, the incident occurred after the city superintendent of police Rishikesh Meena spotted the youths in an inebriated condition near the Gajra Raja Medical College around 2am when he was on patrolling duty and wanted to know from them the reasons for their being out in the wee hours.

The students locked horns with Meena and snatched his mobile phone. Then they went back to the Ravishankar Hostel on the college campus. Meena reached the hostel with his driver. The students manhandled the police officer, threw away his mobile and the key of the police vehicle into a drain.

Meanwhile, a police team rushed to the hostel where the police held discussions with the dean of the college and it was decided that accused students would hand over the mobile phone and keys to the police.
