Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expanded his cabinet on Tuesday, giving lion’s share to the legislators of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Thirty-one legislators, including the brother of Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Tej Pratap Yavav, took oath. Other than Taj Pratap, those who took oath included Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Bijendra Yadav (both from Janata Dal- United), Alok Mehta (RJD) and Afaque Alam (Congress).

This was the second expansion of the Bihar cabinet after Kumar snapped ties with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and joined hands with the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) comprising the JD-U, the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Congress, the Left parties and the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM). The swearing-in was held at Rajendra Mandapam inside Raj Bhawan. Earlier, Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav took oath as chief minister and deputy chief minister on August 10.
