Patna: Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar tore into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s jibe “polarisation to save the corrupt,” referring to his own tenure as Union minister under the prime ministership of Bihar Vajpayee. Kumar, however, ruled out his possible role in national politics. There have been speculations since he snapped ties with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) that he would be the opposition face in the general elections of 2024. He told reporters that the question whether he would be in the race for prime ministership in the next general elections was of no importance.

Meanwhile, there are big posters in Patna, the capital of Bihar, containing slogans like “Pradesh mein Dikha, desh mein Dikhega” (the state has already seen it and, now, the country will…).”  There are many such posters across the city. They clearly indicate that something out of the ordinary is cooking up. Kumar attended a meeting of office-bearers of his party. He arrived at the venue a few hours before his scheduled visit. He said that he had come to see the preparations for the meeting which is going to take place on Saturday. The national council meeting of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) will be held on Sunday.
