Delhi Police Arrests Terrorist in Laxmi Nagar

Delhi Police disrupted a significant terror plot on Monday night and detained a Pakistani terrorist in Laxmi Nagar. According to the Delhi Police special cell, he also had an AK-47 rifle with an extra magazine, 60 rounds, a hand grenade, and two sophisticated pistols with 50 rounds. He was identified as Mohd Asraf, a native of Pakistan’s Punjab residing in Ramesh Park in Laxmi Nagar on a fake Indian ID. According to the initial interrogation, he had established a false id under the name of Ali Ahmad Noorie.

Asraf was an integral component of the sleeper cell and was working with ISI. He was arrested under relevant laws of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosive Act, Arms Act, and other legislation. According to Delhi Police sources, he had been living in the national capital for the past 15 years and used to provide weapons and logistics to terrorists traveling to India. On the banks of the Yamuna River near Kalindi Kunj, he had concealed the firearms under the sand.

He worked as a Maulana in Delhi and other places and received most of his calls over VoIP. Several Pakistani phone numbers were also discovered from his phone, according to reports. Asraf was married to an Indian woman but did not live with her at the time. He has additional members of his network in Delhi, according to sources, who will be detained in the coming days.

Asraf’s arrest came three days after Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana met with top authorities to discuss anti-terror measures in the light of reports of a terrorist strike during the Christmas season in the national capital. They also discussed ways to prevent terrorists from gaining local sympathy on October 9.
