New Delhi: A senior Congress leader and the election authority chairman Madhusudan Mistry said on Thursday that there had been no flaw in the electoral system of the party president. A delegates list will be made available to the candidates at the party office from September 20, two days ahead of the notification for the much-awaited Congress president’s election, he said.

Mistry’s statement came after five MPs of the party demanded the high command to make the list of delegates public, sources in the Congress said.  Five MPs dashed off a letter to Mistry expressing doubt about the transparency in the party president’s election. They demanded that the list that makes electoral college to elect the party president should be given to all electors and to those who are vying for the post.

Mistry wrote back to those MPs, saying that any delegate with the QR-based card is an eligible voter, and each candidate can get proposers among the delegates. Each candidate requires ten proposers. According to Mistry, the party is issuing QR-based identity cards for the first time to all the delegates coming from across 28 states and nine Union Territories. Only those who have valid identity cards will be allowed to sign nomination papers, he said.

Mistry also appreciated those MPs who voiced concern over whether the party president’s election would be fair. Those who want to file nomination can look for names of ten proposers at the Pradesh Congress Committees in their respective states.
